A investigação para este livro centrou-se essencialmente nos dados obtidos através de trabalhos arqueológicos, tendo como grande aliciante o poder abordar todo o processo de comércio e transacção de porcelanas chinesas nos séculos XVI e XVII a partir dos seus vestígios materiais enterrados e submersos, uma área perspectiva de investigação ainda pouco desenvolvida. Fonte de motivação suplementar é o facto de nos encontrarmos perante contextos arqueológicos distintos. Por um lado, materiais recolhidos em Macau, um grande centro exportador de porcelana chinesa, originários tanto de contextos religiosos e nobiliárquicos, como de uma área mercantil. Por outro lado, estudam-se conjuntos portugueses, recolhidos na zona de Lisboa, um grande centro importador e receptor daquelas cerâmicas asiáticas, nomeadamente na área ribeirinha, o antigo palácio dos Corte-Reais, e na Rua da Judiaria, em Almada. Por fim, o meio de transporte, ou seja, o elo que ligaria aqueles dois centros por via marítima: uma das naus da Carreira da Índia, a presumível Nossa Senhora dos Mártires, que, com o porto de destino à vista, naufragou na barra do Tejo com toda a sua valiosa carga.

Esta obra é dedicada à grande festividade do povo chinês, responsável pela maior movimentação de pessoas todos os anos em toda a terra para o encontro com as suas famílias. A primeira parte e dedicada ao calendário lunar. A segunda parte da obra é toda dedicada à celebração do Ano Novo Lunar. E, porque não há festa sem culinária, é dedicado um capitulo à culinária. A obra termina com a descrição dos rituais do encerramento da festividade: a festa das lanternas.

The collection of “Official Records of Macao During the Qing Dynasty (1693-1886)” jointly nominated by the Archives of Macao and the National Archive of Torre do Tombo of Portugal has been inscribed by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) onto the Memory of the World Register on 30 October 2017. The records are reflections on the conditions of the society, the people's lives, urban development, trade and commerce, etc. of Macao during the Qing Dynasty. In addition, they represent the significance of Macao to the world. The exhibition will showcase a selection of over one hundred records to share stories which, though took place in Macao, are of historical relevance to China, Portugal and even major developments in world history. It is expected that a cross referencing of the records with related images and documents can help to construct a vivid picture of Macao during the Qing Dynasty.
