To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of the distinguished Macao artist Mio Pang Fei, the exhibition East-West Contemplations: A Retrospective of Mio Pang Fei presents a comprehensive survey of his artistic journey spanning more than five decades. Showcasing 90 works spanning painting, mixed media, installation, and manuscript, the exhibition unfolds like a vivid artistic biography, offering an in-depth interpretation of Mio Pang Fei's unique path of engaging with Eastern and Western cultures, bridging tradition and modernity, and pioneering ‘Neo-Orientalism’.
The exhibition catalogue is organised into six sections: ‘Shanghai – Experiment’, ‘Macao – Practice’, ‘The Shui Hu Series’, ‘On Human Condition’, ‘Post-Calligraphy’, and ‘The Legacy of Neo-Orientalism’. Among them, ‘The Legacy of Neo-Orientalism’ provides deeper insight into Mio’s creative context through documentary materials, including his studio and working environment, photographs, and a detailed timeline. The catalogue reproduces all 90 exhibited works and includes scholarly essays.
