Helena Almeida is a highly influential artist in the history of Portuguese contemporary art, who used the body as a medium to explore diverse themes in a direct and profound way. The exhibition Helena Almeida: I Am Here - Presence and Resonance, organised by the Macao Museum of Art, is curated by renowned Portuguese art specialist Delfim Sardo, in collaboration with a cross-cultural team from the School of Intermedia Art of the China Academy of Art. The exhibition presents, systematically and chronologically, the main phases and features of the Almeida’s creative career, while also featuring several commissioned works by artists from Macao and the Chinese mainland. This catalogue is divided into two volumes: Presence and Resonance. The former includes the artist’s early paintings, photographic series, final sketch studies, preparatory sketches, as well as video works, while the latter brings together works by artists from Macao and the Chinese mainland, highlighting the inspiring power and resonance of Helena Almeida’s art.
